Homeopathy for pregnancy, childbirth and beyond

Welcoming a new baby into the world can be one of the most joyful and miraculous events of our life, yet often the reality is not quite as rose-tinted as we may have imagined. Homeopathy can really help at all stages of pregnancy, childbirth and the early months of life with a new baby, supporting healthy outcomes and helping us feel empowered in our role as new parents or parents-to-be.

Homeopathic remedies can help with physical aspects of pregnancy such as morning sickness, aches and pains and also emotional issues such as anxiety about the upcoming birth. Remedies can help prepare us physically and emotionally for the birth, can be used to aid progress during birth, and are invaluable for recovery after birth. Even after the most straightforward birth we can be left feeling battered and bruised- we can use Arnica for bruising, Calendula for healing, Hypericum for nerve damage, and Staphysagria for recovery from any surgical intervention. There are remedies that can help if we are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, tearful, frustrated or exhausted and unable to cope either before or after the birth.

If you are interested in exploring the amazing gentle power of homeopathy, Miranda Castro’s ‘Homeopathy for Mother and Baby’ is a wonderful, comprehensive handbook, with loads of practical advice as well as information on how to use homeopathic remedies in different situations.

Sometimes the support of a professional homeopath may be needed, for example to help with recovery from any kind of birth trauma, such as feeling that you or your baby’s life was in danger during the birth, or a physical trauma. I have helped mothers who have experienced significant loss of blood, post-partem infections, internal and external scar healing, breast feeding problems, colicky babies, or just feeling unable to cope with the demands of a new baby. I have also helped women who have continued to suffer the effects of a traumatic birth long after the event, and women who have suffered a miscarriage at different stages of pregnancy.

If you would like to discuss how homeopathy could help you during pregnancy, birth and the early months and years of a baby’s life, or if you have suffered from a traumatic birth or miscarriage that you feel you haven’t ever really recovered from, please get in touch. Homeopathy can really help!
